When I Close My Eyes
All I see
Is Darkness
Yet there is a friendly warmth that is comforting.
When I Close My Eyes
I see a barrage of colors.
Swirls of green and yellow,
Spots of blue and orange,
Dabs of red and grey.
When I Close My Eyes
I hear the clock ticking,
The whisper of the wind outside,
An owl not far off.
When I Close My Eyes
I smell the fresh air,
The fresh pie right out of the oven,
The air freshener in my dad’s car.
When I Close My Eyes
I taste the cake I had on my 16th birthday,
The salt from the first time I swallowed seawater,
The hot cocoa after shoveling snow for the whole day.
When I Close My Eyes
I feel peace.
I feel uplifted and rejuvenated.
I feel free.
