Catherine M. Lee // MATH AS A BUILDING

Each line attempts to find an answer, building on the last

like a skyscraper climbing slowly,

floor by floor, formed by the structured levels under it.

One mistake, and it loses support,

crumbling to the ground,

a wrong answer lays in its rubble.

A foundation of X’s and Y’s supports

never ending equations and proofs.

Frustration.

Reviewing again and again, searching for a possible error,

unable to find the architectural miscalculation.

I drink water, stand up, breathe,

then sit back down and continue to wrestle the problem,

desperate to reach the roof of success.
