Claire M. // AIRPLANE

Let them live as cars

forever grounded

eternally in a sea of clones

but never able to break free, to find their own path

I’d rather be a plane

a great metal beast

soaring free; a bird with no constraints

blissfully racing the clouds

To hold immeasurable power

to spread my wings and live fast

to never be trapped in dull conformity

and to have no restraints

I’d rather be alone, yet content, and if

then without companions for the time

than to be constricted to asphalt nightmares

where freedom is decided

by colored lights above

I’d rather choose my own path,

and go where I please

no yellow lines,

and no roads that must be followed

If I could fly solo,

free and independent.

To be a plane

Is my choice
