Kelly Everin // PEBBLE

I am just a pebble.

Humble and round,

I fit in your pockets.

You toss me around,

And step on my friends. Sometimes

you kick me.

I cannot move.

I cannot speak

But,

I can wish.

I wish that I were a rock,

Rocks are bigger, sturdier.

They cannot fit into greedy pockets.

You cannot kick a rock.

You cannot crush their friends.

Rocks do not drown in puddles,

or fly with a slight gust of wind.

Rocks cannot fit in the palms of loving hands.

They cannot hide in small crevices.

They cannot speak,

I cannot speak either.

But,

Rocks cannot wish.

Pebbles can wish…

I think I will just be

a pebble.
