Rusty red, yearning yellow, baffling brown.
Stacked like pages,
Each sedimentary page tells a story.
As I gawk down from this vast cliff –
This ancient, venerable structure –
All my years of existence are put into perspective.
I stand there, a speck on this gargantuan rock,
A parasite upon immortal time.
My senses are heightened.
I feel the crisp, yet gentle breeze course through my hair.
Although chilled by the arctic air, a gracious awareness overcomes me.
Silence, stillness, secrecy lull me into a boundless pacification.
I stare at this profound abyss that spans deeper than the mind;
And it stares back.
