Martha Klein // OCTOPUS

They traverse murky deeps and ocean floors.

Slithering across planes and chasms,

Traveling with shivery, reticent movements,

Carrying themselves with shuddering fluidity.

Irregular, deliberate movements,

Haul the creature forward.

Extending several loosely defined appendages-

An immaculate muddle of gently flailing limbs,

A blob of effective elegance-

Propelling softly through the sea.
