Niki H. // SOCKS

Polka dots

in black and white,

size small.

That’s how they made us,

my soulmate and me.

Now I live in the back

of a drawer;

wanting

wishing

wondering.

Where did she go?

Where is my better half?

I huddled

in the

dark,

distant

corner,

waiting.

I waited for her to return,

I waited for us to be folded together

again.

I waited

Until,

I saw

That there was a sock

missing her soulmate,

huddled and waiting

beside me

Stripes

in rainbow colors,

size small.

That’s how they made her.

And maybe it’s time

For something new.
